The IPI India Award for Excellence in Journalism, 2023 has been awarded jointly to Neel Madhav & Alishan Jafri for their article headlined “Clicks and Bait”, published in The Caravan, December 2022.
The entry selected is for their exposure of some YouTube channels who manufacture slick video clips that have been spreadinghatred, and been going viral in certain parts of UP and elsewhere.
The Award comprises a cash prize of Rs. One Lakh, a trophy and a citation, to each.
The selection was made by a distinguished jury of Editors headed by Mr. Madan B Lokur, former Judge, Supreme Court of India,after considering the entries received.
Instituted in 2003, the Award has been given to 19 media organisations and journalists in print and electronic media so far.
The India Chapter of the IPI is an active forum of Editors, Publishers and Senior Executives of newspapers, magazines andnews agencies, all of whom are members of the International Press Institute. The Indian Chapter has successfully hostedthe World Congress and General Assembly of the IPI in India in 1966 and 2001, and has been taking up various issues related to the freedom of the press in India.
